Sherwood Autism Center is Hiring!
As our Director of Special Education, you will be responsible for leading and overseeing all instructional and operational aspects of Sherwood’s education program for ages 5 to 21 in conformance with district, state and federal objectives and law. Under the guidance of the CPO, you will work to establish quality assurances and parameters for all educational services including planning, designing and implementing all phases of services provided by the Special Education staff; serve as a resource to parents/guardians, school personnel, and local districts; and maintain adequate staff to ensure objectives of the program and services are achieved within budget and in accordance with Sherwood’s strategic plan. The Director of Special Education will work in cooperation with leadership to provide evidence-based, ethical services in line with our philosophy of care ensuring the highest quality of services are provided in a timely and consistent manner to all program participants.

The Essential Job Functions
  • Provide leadership and vision to ensure continuous development and improvement of the program by designing systems to measure continuous quality improvement and program outcomes.
  • Evaluate and monitor the implementation of educational services and compliance with regulations within the scope of educational practices based on best practice standards in the fields of special education and autism treatment and in accordance with licensure and certification requirements.
  • Oversee the implementation of curriculum appropriate for students with disabilities.
  • Attend community events to recruit perspective job candidates, market Sherwood Center, support autism awareness and other community partnerships as agreed upon by the CPO and CEO.
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise program staff including delivery of feedback through both verbal and written evaluations of staff performance.
  • Prepare documentation and reports including data for the purpose of providing written support, conveying information and complying with Federal and State regulations for other agencies as needed.
  • Act as a liaison to parents/guardians between Sherwood, school districts, KCRC and other professionals and field questions from families, professionals, and visitors concerning the program, service providers, and Sherwood policies.
  • Demonstrate leadership characteristics by creating a strong rapport with supervisees, community partners and professionals while creating an environment that is positive and respects confidentiality with regard to students, staff and agency matters.
  • Oversee and manage the program budget to ensure that program revenue and expenses follow the BOD approved budgetary guidelines.
  • Provide program data and other relative information to other departments as needed to meet organizational needs.
The Requirements
Required: 
  • Master’s degree in School Administration, Special Education, Psychology, or related discipline
  • 7+ years’ experience working with individuals with Autism or related developmental disabilities
  • 5+ years’ experience in a management role
  • IEP and curriculum development
  • Effective written, verbal communication skills, leadership and customer relationship skills
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment with initiative in analyzing and solving problems
  • A strong desire to work with a dynamic team and advance their knowledge and skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office specifically Word, Excel and Outlook
Preferred: 
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst
  • MO teaching certification
  • Strong writing and scheduling skills with efficient time management
