Job Title:            Assistant Principal – Elementary School
Reports To:         Principal
FLSA Status:       Exempt
Contract Days:   12 months
The purpose of this position is to collaborate with the administrative team of the elementary school in order to achieve the collective vision of Hogan Preparatory Academy.
  • Work with the principal to ensure a safe and manageable facility.
  • Collaborate with principal handle issues as they occur.
  • Supervise, observe and evaluate teaching staff.
  • Supervise, observe and evaluate and non-certified staff.
  • Communicate with principal, staff, parents/guardians regarding any major discipline issues and consequences.
    • Work with students dealing with behavior challenges in class and on buses.
    • Refer to social worker or counselor when necessary.
    • Resolve problems between teachers and students, parents/guardians and teachers, and students and parents.
    • Process discipline paper work to include data entry in student information system.
    • Support teachers in utilizing strategies and creating behavior plans to help students  develop skills to manage emotions and behavior
Other duties as assigned
  • Masters’ in Education Administration.
  • Five years proven experience in the classroom.
  • A valid Missouri Teacher's or Administrative Certificate
  • Demonstrated leadership traits in current position.
  • Experience in urban education strongly preferred.
  • Experience in education administration preferred.
  • Experience in elementary school setting.
  • Three years of admin or instructional coaching experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated performance in increasing student achievement.
  • Working knowledge of balanced literacy, Missouri Learning Standards, curriculum design and effective instructional practices
  • Excellent people skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Google.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, vendors, regulatory agencies, and/or etc.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to follow internal procedures to ensure internal controls are properly maintained.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback in a manner that builds positive school culture
  • Ability to de-escalate and coach students through behavior challenges using trauma-informed strategies that support students’ social/emotional development
  • Ability to pass extensive background check.
  • Self-starter with ability to handle multiple tasks and frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding staff and students. 
WORKING CONDITIONS (physical demands/work environment)
  • Ability to travel to various district buildings as needed
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
