Job Description:
 The Universal Support Services (USS) will be a full day enrichment program following a typical school day schedule. USS students will participate in a variety of activities. Nursing Services will support students who may require nursing support to attend USS, to include first aid and emergency care for students while following district Board of Education policies and procedures regarding nursing care to students with special health care needs according to professional nursing guidelines and scope of practice. This support could include (but is not limited to) administration of medication(s), g-tube feedings, care during a seizure, etc. May require travel on bus and alternating building assignment(s).

Summary:  School nurses strengthen and facilitate the educational process by modifying, managing or removing health-related barriers to learning by promoting an optimal level of wellness for students and staff.
Job Responsibilities:

Instruction and Learning – Student achievement/performance and staff growth
  1. Assists with the development and implementation of the comprehensive health education curriculum.
  2. Provides technical assistance to administrators and participates on committees to ensure best practice in development of health care policies and procedures.
  3. Assists with the development and implementation of infection control programs for students and staff.
  4. Participates in professional development activities (internal and external).
  5. Annually supervises health services assistants and certified nurse assistants in responsibilities of those positions with regard to accepted delegation practices according to NASN, NCABN, ANA and district policy and procedures.
  6. Provides instruction, education and support for students to help them take responsibility for health-related conditions enabling them to provide as much self-care as feasible and age-appropriate.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in health services preferred.  Two years experience in public health, emergency room, pediatrics, pediatric psychiatry or experience with individuals with disabilities required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Current Missouri License as Registered Nurse.
