Job Title:            Recovery Room Behavior Interventionist-Middle School
Reports To:        Principal
FLSA Status:     Exempt
Contract Days:  Ten Months (Academic School Year)

The purpose of this position is to provide continuous support to the overall educational environment by utilizing BIST (Behavior Intervention Support Team) and Love & Logic strategies in order to address student behaviors.
  • Helps create and sustain a positive learning environment for all students within the Recovery Room and across the school
  • Provides ongoing behavior intervention strategies for all students in all aspects of the educational environment.
  • Works one-on-one or in small student group with students who are experiencing “in the moment” difficulty in managing behaviors
  • Regular and dependable attendance
  • Plan and implement individual, small group, and whole group lessons in mindfulness, self-regulation, de-escalation, etc.
  • Supporting mindfulness and self-regulation
  • Assist in the successful support with students who are struggling to be safe and are in need of skillful brain-based de-escalation, calming and resetting for learning.
  • Assist students in problem-solving, brainstorming solutions, making restitution, and selecting appropriate consequences of behavior challenges.
  • Monitor arrival and dismissal procedures
  • Provides outlets and avenues for students to communicate with staff, serving as a liaison to empower students, develop leadership skills, and build healthy relationships built on trust.
  • Collects and analyzes discipline data, communicate regularly with the staff, administration, and parents and tracks progress toward individual student and school-wide goals
  • Collaborates with teachers, administration, and BIST consultants to create and implement behavior support plans for struggling students.
  • He or she will collaborate closely with and report to the principal and assistant principal.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.
  • Required:  60 college credit hours (Preferred: Bachelor’s in Education or similar field)
  • Required:  Experience with children and educational settings (Preferred:  urban experience)
  • Required:  Knowledge and experience with BIST (Behavior Intervention Support Team) strategies
  • Strong familiarity with education and child welfare policies and best practices and a motivation to continue expanding that knowledge base through self-study and interaction with peers.
  • Excellent organizational skills and an ability to coordinate multiple tasks and activities simultaneously.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students, colleagues, families and other educational partners
  • Initiative to identify challenges, as well as to design and implement solutions
  • Excellent work ethic, positive attitude and exceptional people skills

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, and administrators.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiple, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Director policies.
