Job Description:
Community School is seeking a full time permanent first grade teacher to join our faculty beginning in the 2021-2022 school year as we fulfill our mission of nurturing the mind, body and spirit. Founded in 1914, Community School is one of the premier independent schools in Saint Louis. Known for its deeply personal and engaged approach to learning, the school enrolls approximately 350 students from age three through Sixth Grade. Community School provides a well-integrated, experiential curriculum that is attentive to the whole child’s growth and development. The school is located on an eighteen-acre wooded campus, including trails, fields, woods, and a pond, which offers many opportunities for nature and outdoor activities.
Community has approximately 20 students and a team of two full-time teachers per homeroom. The teachers share in planning and delivering curriculum content in literature, language arts, math and social studies.

- Have a bachelor’s degree or higher in early childhood or elementary education
- Have the knowledge of and the ability to teach all academic areas
- Be able to differentiate for children’s needs and learning styles
- Have a strong background in reading development, preferable knowledge and experience in Math in Focus and Lucy Calkins Units of Study in Writing
