Title: Principal; Reports to: Superintendent of Schools; Classification: Certified; FLSA Status: Exempt
Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education’s policy on the Evaluation of Professional Staff.
Terms of Employment and compensation: Salary, work year, vacation, and benefits to be established by the Lexington R-V Board of Education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.
  • Administrate the assigned school in compliance with the statutes of the State of Missouri, regulations of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and the approved policies of the Lexington R-V Board of Education.
  • Establish and maintain an effective learning climate.
  • Provide the leadership for implementation of programs to meet student needs.
  • Supervise the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development.
  • Establish guidelines regarding student conduct and maintain effective student discipline.
  • Plan, organize, and direct all school activities in conjunction with the Activities Director, when appropriate.
  • Supervise the instructional process and submit appropriate staffing recommendations to the Superintendent.
  • Coordinate school activities in conjunction with the athletic director, PTO, STAR and other school/community organizations.
  • Serve as the instructional leader, including curriculum development and the monitoring of student achievement indicators such as standardized test scores, course grades, ect.
  • Establish and maintain favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs.
  • Assist newly assigned staff members in their transition to the new position.
  • Coordinate support services such as maintenance, security, food services with the regular school schedule/program.
  • Works with the Director of Special Services in implementing and supervising the school’s special education programs, including gifted education and Title I.
  • Prepare or supervise the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required for the administration of the school.
  •  Participate in district administrative meetings and other meetings as directed by the Superintendent of Schools.
  • Prepare and submit the school’s budgetary requests and monitor expenditures of funds.
  •  In conjunction with other members of the district’s administrative team, work on overall district issues involving transportation, food services, special services, etc.
  •  Conduct meetings to keep staff informed of new programs, policies, administrative expectations, etc.
  • Keep the Superintendent informed of the school’s activities as well as any problems that might develop.
  •  Maintain professional expertise by attending professional meetings, reading professional literature and research, etc.
  • Make provision for substitute teachers in his/her building.
  •  Evaluate the performance of all certified and non-certified staff in his/her building.
  •  Attend all regularly scheduled meetings of the Board of Education.
  • Provide opportunities for the staff to grow professionally through attendance at conferences, workshops, and in-house professional development activities.
  • Initiate, design, and implement programs to meet the specific needs of the school.? Maintain, control, and account for all funds generated by the school’s student activities.

  • The Principal shall have completed a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from an accredited college or university.
  • The Principal shall possess the necessary certification for the position as required by the Missouri State Board of Education.
  •  The Principal shall have had at least two (2) years of teaching experience and other supervisory experience as determined by the State Board of Education and    the Lexington R-V Board of Education.
The employee will complete a satisfactory criminal/abuse and neglect background check in accordance with state law and Board policy
Additional duties are performed by the individuals currently holding this position and additional duties may be assigned.
