Job Description:

Primary Purpose:
Listen to CB radio during A.M./P.M. and midday routes, answering/returning phones calls, filling in as a sub driver when a route driver is out, updating routes throughout the year to keep them as safe and timely as possible, coordinate and facilitate training for new and experienced drivers, provide administrative support to the Director of Transportation, operate school buses that transports students and other authorized personnel to and from schools or other designated location.

Education/Certification:
Valid Missouri commercial driver’s license (Class B) with Passenger and S endorsements

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Must be 21 years of age or older
Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
Must be able to pass a criminal history check
Must have acceptable driving record
Must have computer skills
Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to manage student behavior
Ability to operate bus
Ability to communicate with parents
Ability to coach, train and manage other drivers
Ability to preform simple mechanical tasks
Preferred mechanical/ASE experience

Experience:
A minimum of two years of bus driving experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Provide administrative assistance and support to Director of Transportation
  • Coordinate, facilitate and document annual and as needed safety training and student behavioral training for drivers and aides, including classroom and field-based training
  • Provide assistance in the creation of route descriptions
  • Evaluate and document the performance of new and experienced bus drivers through ride-a -longs for the purpose of ensuring that the required skill levels are met and are in compliance
  • Provide classroom instruction, pre-trip inspection and behind the wheel training for applicants to ensure successful completion of Class B CDL with P & S endorsements
  • Annually check and document all buses to ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kits, fire extinguishers, flags and reflectors
  • Attend training programs and workshops and maintain first aid/CPR training
Work extended/irregular hours as needed.
Keep the fleet clean inside and out.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:
School bus, safety equipment (flares, reflective signs), fire extinguisher, seatbelts, wheelchair lift, power washer, snow plow, zero turn mower, and fleet vehicles

Mental Demands:
Maintain emotional control under stress

Physical Demands:
Continual sitting, typically frequent reaching, and repetitive hand/arm motions are necessary. Working outside and inside with moderate exposure to extreme temperatures. Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Hourly Rate:
$15.56-$16.93 Based on years of experience
