JOB SUMMARY
The job of School Nurse is done for the purposes of assessing the health needs of students; assisting in alleviating the effects of health-related barriers to learning; developing emergency care plans and individual health plans, incorporating input from parent and/or physician; complying with the laws relating to student health, including parental and guardian consent; providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured students; providing health information; and serving as a resource to teachers, staff, and administrators. The individual would also assist in the front office.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Collaborates with district administration to develop Health Services policies for the purpose of maintaining procedures consistent with current legislation and best practices.
  • Collaborates with parents, students, health care providers, and/or public agencies for the purpose of promoting and/or securing student health services, providing information and complying with legal requirements.
  • Collaborates with parents and staff for the purpose of investigating and resolving actual or perceived concerns involving Health Service policies, procedures or staff.
  • Conducts site assessments (e.g. health issues, student health records, emergency preparedness, etc.) for the purpose of identifying issues and/or providing recommendations for improving safety and accessibility.
  • Develops individual health plans for the purpose of addressing students' health needs; providing direction to site personnel and/or implementing directions provided by parents and/or physicians.
  • Develops and updates parental notification letters and Health Services forms for the purpose of keeping parents informed.
  • Identifies and submits clinic supply orders, within budgetary guidelines, for the purpose of ensuring our health office is equipped with necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains a variety of documents and files (e.g. student health care plans, agency referrals, accident reports, etc.) for the purpose of providing information required by legal requirements and professional standards.
  • Entering personal health information into the district’s student information system.
  • Provides training on a variety of health related subjects (e.g. CPR, disaster preparedness, child abuse, health education, medication management, policies and procedures, substance abuse, growth and development, food allergies, STDs, hygiene, etc.) for the purpose of promoting a healthy lifestyle and/or acting as a resource to students, teachers, and other school personnel.
  • Responds to emergency medical situations (e.g. severe falls, prescription reactions, bleeding, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring appropriate immediate attention and related follow-up actions. 
  • There will be some instances in which this person will assist in the front office with duties including but not limited to covering the front desk, answering phones, organization, filing, greeting and assisting visitors and families, assisting students as well as other staff members.
QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
  • Associates degree in nursing and/or Vocational School degree with study in job related area
  • Certification: LPN or RN license, CPR Certification 
  • Able to pass an extensive background check
Contract Days:  Ten Months
