Head of Finance 
Reports to Head of School

SUMMARY

Responsible for all financial, fiscal, and reporting management. Provide leadership and coordination in the administrative, business planning, accounting and budgeting efforts of the school.
 
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Create, coordinate, and evaluate the financial programs and supporting information systems of the company to include budgeting, cost control financial reporting, and conservation of assets. 
  2. Approve and coordinate changes and improvements in automated financial and management information systems for the school. 
  3. Provide leadership and supervision in the area of Finance and Business Operations.
  4. Establish a plan and schedule for the preparation of the annual budget that will permit the setting of the succeeding year’s educational and facility programs
  5. Provide for the securing and coordination of an annual audit of the school’s financial records and financial positions. 
  6. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal budgetary reporting requirements. 
  7. Oversee the approval and processing of revenue, expenditure, benefits and commercial insurance, department budgets, salary updates, ledger, and account maintenance and data entry. 
  8. Coordinate the preparation of financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, DESE Core Data Reports, and other information reports as necessary. 
  9. Develop and implement finance, accounting, billing, and auditing procedures. 
  10. Establish and maintain appropriate internal control safeguards. 
  11. Maintain and coordinate internal audit teams to ensure compliance with written internal controls and accounting policies.
  12. Interact with other Leadership team members to provide consultative support to planning initiatives through financial and management information analyses, reports, and recommendations. 
  13. Ensure records systems are maintained in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards. 
  14. Ensure accounting records are maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices. 
  15. Develop and direct the implementation of strategic business and/or operational plans, projects, programs, and systems. 
  16. Analyze cash flow, cost controls, and expenses to guide school leaders. Analyze financial statements to assess potential risk-prone areas. 
  17. Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.  
  18. Establish and maintain relations with banks and other financial institutions.
  19. Support the school and participate in its leadership.
  20. Attend all finance and Board of Trustee meetings
  21. Other duties as assigned. 

  ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES 
  1. Represent the company externally to government agencies, funding agencies, and the general public. 
  2. Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate department staff. 
Life of School:
Participate in life of school through school duty – (TBD – but usually traffic help before or after school)

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS 
  1. Experience in strategic planning and execution. Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management. Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems. Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections. 
  2. Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects. Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings. 
  3. Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.
