Position Description
The Biome School is looking for a Mathematics Interventionist to support student achievement in math for all learners, with special attention to learners receiving Tier II, Tier III, or Special Education services.   The Mathematics Interventionist will work with learners in one-on-one sessions or in small groups and will provide in-class support to classroom leaders, as appropriate.  Primary goals for the Interventionist are to develop students’ foundational skills, to assist students in identifying and correcting errors, and to lead students to develop meaningful connections to mathematics. 

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Implements instructional practices that accelerate learning for students who struggle with mathematics
  • Collects and uses student data to inform instruction for individuals and small groups
  • Documents learner progress and communicates growth and/or decline to classroom leaders, administrators, and families
  • Supports classroom leaders by modeling best practices and assisting with the development of high quality, standards-based, mathematics lessons
  • Facilitates trainings and professional development plans to elevate mathematics instruction
  • Participates in ongoing professional development in order to stay up to date on best practices in mathematics instruction, intervention, and assessments
  • Assists in the development of intervention plans for learners
  • Attends Tier II, Tier II, and IEP meetings, as appropriate
  • Participates in the evaluation of the mathematics program and helps to facilitate the development of improvement strategies
School Description 
The Biome reflects our belief that the learning environment is critical to student success and must be responsive to the talents and individual academic needs of children.  The Biome will support the diverse academic needs and abilities of our students, and will encourage meaningful interaction of students and adults who will contribute positively to the school and larger communities.  The Biome will be a model for integrating student-centered learning, project-based opportunities, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) within a nurturing, academic ecosystem.  The Biome's curriculum and overall course of study will include core features:
  • Intensive provision of concentrated literacy and math instruction in the early grades 
  • Ongoing use of integrated/multidisciplinary units and lessons from K-5 grades
  • Particular attention paid to the development of social emotional skills 
  • Annual STEAM-focused and project-based thematic units, beginning in kindergarten and increasing in rigor through grade 5
  • Year-end culminating portfolio for K-5 grades 
Initially, the school instructional team will use research-based curriculum in literacy, math, science, and social studies to provide a foundation for ongoing curriculum development; however, the curriculum is continuously customized by experts with the aid of experienced classroom and school leaders, to ensure that the curriculum remains rigorous and applicable to real-world settings.   

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree is preferred
  • Holds a valid elementary teaching certificate for Missouri
  • Three years of successful teaching experience at the elementary level
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
