Position Title:
       Psychological Examiner
Reports To:          Director of Special Education
Salary Range:       $40,250 - $82,500
Summary:  The purpose of this position is to 1) determine students’ eligibility for special education services by assessing their cognitive ability, academic achievement, processing strengths and weaknesses and behavioral functioning, and 2) to assist in the development of a specific educational program for the student.
Job Responsibilities:
Instruction and Learning – Student achievement/performance and staff growth
  1. Participates as a team member in the multidisciplinary evaluation process.
  2. Prior to a referral for a Wright City R-II evaluation consults with school staff including process coordinator requiring academic/behavioral interventions and appropriateness of referral.
  3. Administers diagnostic/standardized tests and procedures to determine students’ processing strengths and weaknesses, cognitive ability, academic achievement levels, and behavioral functioning.
  4. Attends pre-evaluation conferences with parents and school officials to obtain pertinent background information, review school concerns, explain parental rights and responsibilities and secure permission to evaluate.
  5.  Attends diagnostic conferences and reports assessment results and recommendations to parents, students, teachers, counselors, and other interested and/or entitled parties.
  6. May serve as Local Education Agency (LEA) at diagnostic conferences and is responsible for ensuring that diagnostic decisions are made in compliance with Department Elementary Secondary Education (DESE) criteria and best professional practice.
  7. Maintains case records by preparing a final evaluation report of all educational assessments for the district in a timely manner.
  8. Attends local/regional/national conferences and workshops, in-service training, staff meetings, and credit courses (when necessary) in order to keep abreast of new developments and maintain certification and/or licensure.
  9. Attends Individual Education Program (IEP) conferences, may serve as Local Education Agency (LEA) representative when necessary, to provide input on appropriate goals and objectives and individuals students.
  10. Consults with colleagues, supervisors, and consultants regarding the special education needs of individual students.
  11. Follows all school board policies, district procedures, and Wright City Special Education Handbook manual
  12. Performs other tasks as assigned by the superintendent, assistant superintendent, special education administrator, or process coordinator.
Education and/or Experience:
Master’s in special education or related field and certification in one or more areas of special education. Prefer three to five years of teaching experience in special education. Psychological Examiner Certification.

 Terms covering compensation, benefits, and working conditions are specified by the Board of Education.
