Job Description:
Sunrise R-IX School District is currently accepting applications for a middle school special education teacher, certified in Mild/Moderate Cross Categorical Special Education with possible content area certification, for the 2020-2021 school year. This position is for a pull-out 6th-8th grade special education teacher.

POSITION: The middle school special education will teach 6 courses; 6th grade math, 6th grade ELA, 7th grade math, 8th grade math, 7/8 grade ELA, and a resource period.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Special Education Director
 
JOB DUTIES:
  • Participates in the IEP process by attending IEP meetings, collaborating with IEP team members, preparing IEP and reevaluation paperwork, and delivering instruction to enable students to make IEP goal progress
  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct paperwork as required by law, district policy, and administrative procedures
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students in all areas of instruction
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
  • Prepares for students assigned and demonstrates written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques, technology, and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required
  • Assists in the administration and implementation of all policies and rules governing student conduct.  
  • Develops reasonable rules addressing classroom behavior and procedures in the classroom that maintains fair and just order in the classroom
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for paraprofessionals
  • Utilizes knowledge of informal and formal assessment procedures and curriculum standards  
  • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
  • Attends faculty meetings and serves on staff committees as required
  • Cooperates and collaborates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods
  • Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others
  • Provides for his or her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning
  • Counsels with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.
Sunrise R-IX School is a K-8 district with approximately 330 students and 55 staff. Sunrise follows a four-day school week calendar.
