Job Title: Parent Educator 
Reports to: Director of Learning 
Work Schedule: 9 months per year - daily schedule varies to meet the needs of our Willard families
Salary Schedule: PAT Salary Schedule 19/20

The Willard Public School District is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Parent Educator. The Parent Educator will use curriculum and other resources developed by the National Center for Parents as Teachers to assess and create a personal family visit plan including individual developmental levels, based on the individual needs of the family and child(ren).
  1. Minimum Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in education, child development or other job-related area 
  2. Certification or Licensure: Must be able to obtain and meet requirements for National Center for Parents as Teachers Foundational Model Certification and annual recertification, required
  3. Experience Desired: One to two years of recent and relevant experience assessing pre-k children for instructional needs and educating parents on appropriate early childhood learning methods, such as assessing early childhood development needs, creating lesson plans, communicating methods to parents and evaluating each child’s progress
  4. Other requirements: 
    • Must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the Board of Education 
    • Must have strong communication skills, both oral and written 
    • Must have excellent organizational and time management skills 
    • Must maintain accurate records and ensure the privacy of those records    
    • Must value collaboration and have a team-centered philosophy
    • Must possess computer skills and competencies required to perform the job’s functions   
    • Must develop and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders
    • Must possess a valid Missouri driver’s license and reliable, appropriately insured mode of transportation.
Performance Responsibilities:
  1. Provides assistance, instruction and materials to parents/children in the areas of early childhood development.
  2. Creates and develops lessons that meet individual development levels using nationally approved, research-based home visitation curriculum, Parents as Teachers Foundational and Model Implementation along with Parents as Teachers Foundational 2.
  3. Offers encouragement, information and instruction in the areas of parent education and home-school interaction.
  4. Has considerable knowledge of parent education and outreach practices and programs.
  5.  Provides age-appropriate developmental information and activities to parents.
  6. Monitors child behavior for educational, visual, and hearing delays and refers suspected delays to appropriate school staff.
  7. Maintains a flexible work schedule to accommodate parents' schedules, which may include mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  8. Maintains appropriate records on participation, attendance, home visits, and group meetings. 
  9. Demonstrates patience and maturity in dealing with young children, parents, teachers, and co-workers.
  10. Conducts screening activities as required.
  11. Maintains confidentiality and non-judgmental views of children and families served.
  12. Performs related duties as assigned.
  13. Prepares and disseminates educational and information materials.
  14. Meets applicable district physical ability/healthy and safety guidelines for the position.
