Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Grounds, the Grounds Coordinator performs a variety of tasks necessary to achieve a pleasant and functional outdoor campus.  Also maintains and repairs all landscaping and grounds equipment.

Essential Functions
  • Performs grounds maintenance activities including cultivating, planting, watering, fertilizing, weeding, mowing and/or pruning lawn, gardens, shrubs and trees.
  • Assists with the maintenance of outdoor fields and athletic facilities to include marking out boundaries before events.
  • Plants shrubs, trees, flowers, and vegetation following detailed plans and directions.
  • Removes dirt, trash and debris from assigned areas and transports same to appropriate disposal facility.
  • Performs removal of snow and ice from assigned areas using hand and power snow removal equipment.  Spreads salt, sand, and deicers to prevent slipping.
  • Operates hand and power equipment such as mowers, tillers, sweepers, snow blowers, shovels, and small vehicles including tractors.  Performs routine assembly, cleaning and maintenance of equipment as needed.
  • Measures, mixes and applies fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides, and other chemicals following specific instructions. (License/Certification is helpful)
  • Performs physical work requiring bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and frequent heavy lifting; to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • Responds and executes work order requests.
  • Mandatory over-time required during inclement weather or for special events.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Follows workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • In the absence of the Director of Grounds, will serve as the supervisor and point of contact for the department.
  • Develop an understanding of support the Grounds Department provides to multiple department within the MICDS community.
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the School’s discretion.
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Skill in the use of computers, and applicable software as it pertains to grounds and operations.
  • Must have knowledge in irrigation systems (software and repair)
  • Skill in organizing resources and understanding budgets.
  • Ability to supervise and train multiple employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA safety procedures.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • High level of self-motivation and proven ability to work with little supervision.
  • Ability to work additional hours when needed.
Other Information
  • A criminal history and background check is required and must be successfully completed.
  • A motor vehicle record check will be performed to determine ability to drive school-owned vehicles
  • Tasks are regularly performed with potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as strong odors, fumes, dusts, wetness, humidity, machinery, vibrations, temperature and noise extremes, and toxic/poisonous agents.
  • Works in varied and extreme weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
