Job Description:
Summary: The Float Nurse, at the direction of the Staffing Facilitator, provides hands on care to students in Special School District buildings, and, when indicated, in Partner District buildings.

The float nurse may provide care under SSD's other job description(s): ESCE/Itinerant Nurse, One on One Nurse, School Nurse.  

Instruction and Learning - Student achievement/performance and staff growth
1. Coordinates and implements nursing care to meet the health needs of the student(s) supported while at school and, if necessary, on district provided transportation.
2. Attempts to remove health barriers that prevent students from accessing education or meeting educational goals.
3. Provides instruction, education and support, when appropriate, to allow the student to take responsibility for health-related conditions.
4. Foster student's independence, enabling them to engage in appropriate self-care.
5. Encourages student inclusion in classroom, group, school and district-wide activities.
6. Implements components of an individualized student health plan.
7. Participates in professional development activities (internal and external).

Education and/or Experience           
Nursing education and two years of experience required in any of the following areas: public health, emergency room, pediatrics, pediatric psychiatry or working with individuals with disabilities. Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations          
Must have a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license in good standing issued in the state of Missouri and current pre-hospital provider or BLS CPR certification through American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or related entity. ANCC certification in pediatrics or school nursing preferred.
