TITLE:                                     Special Services Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS:               The Special Services Coordinator shall hold an appropriate Missouri
teacher's certificate and have a minimum of three (3) years of special education related 
experience. Advanced coursework and/or training in the related subject area are required.  Previous leadership and supervision experience preferred.  Administrator or Special Education Director Certification preferred.

REPORTS TO:                         Assistant Superintendent for Special Services

FLSA STATUS:                       Exempt

JOB GOAL:                             The   Special   Services   Coordinator,   as   recommended  by   the
superintendent of schools and approved by the Board of Education, shall be appointed to promote the 
effectiveness of the overall Special Services program.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supervises program for initial evaluation and identification of qualifying students requiring 
special education services.
2. Plans, supervises and evaluates the instructional program to meet students’ needs.
3. Plans, implements, and monitors the provision of services for non-public programming related to 
special service programs.
4. Assists with planning, implementing and monitoring staff development and growth activities
for staff members.
5. Act as liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the 
district and encouraging community participation.
6. Assists with planning, supervising and coordinating the staffing and implementation of the 
Extended.
School Year program.
7. Coordinates, implements, and monitors services for students participating in out-of-district 
placements.
8. Assists with the responsibility for the safety and administration of district-level programs.
9. Supervises individual student programs by participating in and/or monitoring student evaluation, 
individual education plans and 504 plans.
10. Ensures the provisions of other special education or related services by discussing and problem 
solving with staff and administration.
11. Communicates with parents/guardian concerning student individual educational programs.
12. Assists in the development of annual budgets and staffing needs.
13. Collects, maintains and reports data regarding students and update reports as requested.
14. Oversees assigned projects and stays current regarding quality products/programs related to 
subject area.
15. Maintain a working knowledge of various forms of assistive technology.
16. Maintain a working knowledge of Board, Federal, and State Department policies and procedures 
for special education services.
17. Perform other duties as required by law or as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her 
designee.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The Special Services Coordinator will be appointed for a period not to exceed one year during the 
month of March and will be directly responsible to the Superintendent or his/her designee. Work 
hours will be consistent with district office. The Special Services Coordinator will be employed on 
a twelve-month basis.

EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s
policy on evaluation of professional Personnel.
