Job Description:
Walnut Grove Elementary School.  Located at 1248 North Florissant Road in Ferguson, Missouri.  Walnut Grove Elementary School is committed to challenging students to achieve academic excellence and personal success by providing state-of-the-art instruction and a challenging curriculum within a warm, caring environment in partnership with dedicated parents, staff and community. 


Providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for overseeing the “In-School Suspension” Program and assigned students; documenting student behavior; and providing information to teachers, parents and/or other personnel. 

  1. Identify issues and methods for increasing student success.
  2. Implements under the supervision of assigned teacher, behavioral plans designed for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
  3. Monitors students during assigned periods for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  4. Provides verbal and written feedback of observations for the purpose of informing teacher/s, Assistant Principal, and/or parents of students’ activities.
  5. Tutors students on assigned class work for the purpose of providing ongoing support in the completion of work assignments.

  1. Bachelor’s degree required in education or a related field:  Master’s degree preferred.
  2. Missouri  Substitute Certificate or Teaching Certificate in any subject
  3. Excellent human relation skills
  4. Experience with underrepresented students
  5. Experience with student intervention programs
  6. Classroom Management skills
  7. Must have a working knowledge of computers. 
  8. Verbal and written communication skills. 
  9. Skilled at organizing and planning of work, detail oriented, communicates in a positive manner with others, and works well under high stress situations.


1. Major Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a facilitator of several students.
  • Serve as an instructor of a class.
  • Supervise students and conduct programs on PLC days from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Create, use, and assist with instructional books, packets, and materials for classroom.
  • Other duties as assigned by Principal and Office of Secondary Education.
2.  Saturday Commitment:
  • Work with students that have been placed on suspension but remaining in school. 
  • Staff should work at least 15 minutes before and after the Saturday detention hours but not to exceed one hour of time total.
