Job Title:                   Substitute Teacher World Language
Department:              Lower/Middle/Upper
Reports To:               Division Director
FLSA:                        Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY
The substitute teacher is responsible for classroom management in the absence of the regular teacher and will teach one of the following subjects:  French, Latin, Mandarin, or Spanish.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Maintains discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students in accordance with school policies.
  • Implements lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.
  • Organizes students for effective instruction.
  • Collects and places students’ papers in regular teacher’s desk.
  • Complies with and supports school regulations and policies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the department chair or division director.
  • Language instruction in one of the four subject areas as follows.
    • Native or near native fluency in one of the following languages:  French, Mandarin, or Spanish.
    • Basic understanding of the essentials of Latin, including morphology (the changing of endings in an inflected language). Latin word order, basic sentence construction, and translation skills.
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the School’s discretion.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in subject matter or relevant work experience.
    • Ability to work in an environment that embraces a diverse community of students, educators, parents, and alums.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must enjoy working and learning with children
OTHER INFORMATION
  • A criminal history and background check is required and must be successfully completed.
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment.
  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
