District Nurse
The job of District Nurse is done for the purpose/s of assessing the health needs of students; assisting in alleviating the effects of health-related barriers to learning; developing emergency care plans and individual health plans, incorporating input from parent and/or physician; complying with the laws relating to student health, including parental and guardian consent; providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured students; providing health information; and serving as a resource to teachers, staff, and administrators.
This job reports to Chief Operations Officer
Essential Functions
  • Collaborates with district administration to develop Health Services policies for the purpose of maintaining procedures consistent with current legislation and best practices.
  • Collaborates with parents, students, health care providers, and/or public agencies for the purpose of promoting and/or securing student health services, providing information and complying with legal requirements.
  • Collaborates with parents and staff for the purpose of investigating and resolving actual or perceived concerns involving Health Service policies, procedures or staff.
  • Conducts site assessments (e.g. health issues, student health records, emergency preparedness, etc.) for the purpose of identifying issues and/or providing recommendations for improving safety and accessibility.
  • Coordinates with area nursing colleges/universities for the purpose of assigning and providing nursing clinical opportunities within district clinic sites.
  • Develops individual health plans for the purpose of addressing students' health needs; providing direction to site personnel and/or implementing directions provided by parents and/or physicians.
  • Develops and updates parental notification letters and Health Services forms for the purpose of keeping parents informed.
  • Identifies and submits clinic supply orders for district clinic sites, within budgetary guidelines, for the purpose of ensuring clinics are equipped with necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains a variety of documents and files (e.g. student health care plans, agency referrals, accident reports, etc.) for the purpose of providing information required by legal requirements and professional standards.
  • Maintains list of CPR expiration dates for the purpose of ensuring Health Services personnel receive timely CPR renewal certifications.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops, seminars, and interacts with interdisciplinary teams for the purpose of gathering, conveying and/or sharing information on students health needs, service delivery, educational programs, and/or improving skills and knowledge.
  • Provides training on a variety of health related subjects (e.g. CPR, disaster preparedness, child abuse, health education, medication management, policies and procedures, substance abuse, growth and development, food allergies, STDs, hygiene, etc.) for the purpose of promoting a healthy lifestyle and/or acting as a resource to students, teachers, and other school personnel.
  • Provides educational support and hands on training to ensure all staff have the skills to administer first aid, medication and specialized medical treatments for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children.
  • Responds to emergency medical situations (e.g. severe falls, prescription reactions, bleeding, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring appropriate immediate attention and related follow-up action
  • Schedules mandated screenings (e.g. which may include vision, dental, hearing and/or back/scoliosis screenings and required resources to complete screenings, etc.) for the purpose of referring possible medical conditions.
  • Submits weekly county contagion reports and annual state compliance reports for the purpose of complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
  • Other Functions
  • Serves as a resource for age appropriate programs and/or activities in conjunction with classroom curriculum (e.g. growth and development, health education, nutritional workshops, etc.) for the purpose of supporting established lesson plans.

Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required. Bachelors degree in job-related area.?Bachelors degree in nursing, business or job-related area.
