KIPP St. Louis is a growing network of free, open-enrollment, public charter schools offering a choice to families and a college-preparatory education to children in St. Louis city. 

Position Overview
The Human Resources (HR) Manager will play a critical role in supporting a team of superstars so we can achieve ambitious goals for our scholars. The HR Manager will execute human resources activities for all school-based and regional staff by leading employee relations and compensation and benefits activities. Additionally, the HR Manager will partner with others to conduct regular payroll reviews and support the development of our region’s HR strategy.  

This position is available immediately.
Position type: Full time, exempt    

HR Strategy Development (Partner)
  • Partner with the Talent Director to develop KIPP St. Louis’ overall talent strategy
  • Research and identify high leverage employee engagement activities
  • Function as a strategic business partner for schools and departments to increase staff success and sustainability
  • Support plan to attract, develop and retain high-quality diverse staff 
 Employee Relations (Lead) 
  • Counsel School Leaders and Administrators on employee management and retention practices 
  • Lead case management activities and grievance investigation and resolution processes
  • In partnership with Talent, develop performance management systems and supporting tools 
  • Ensure that KIPP St. Louis complies with all labor laws and applicable legal requirements 
  • Responsible for annual review, update, and distribution of Employee Handbook
  • Provide guidance on appropriate practices, interpretations of policies, procedures, and laws
  • Partner with hiring managers on developing and/or transitioning employees as needed
  • Provide exit interviews; summarize themes and create corrective action plans as needed
Employee Benefits and Compensation (Lead)
  • Recommend compensation placements for all employees and conduct compensation equity audits
  • Conduct annual benefits review to ensure competitive, cost-effective benefits packages for all staff
  • Manage annual open enrollment; ensure all enrollments are completed accurately and on time
  • Serve as the point person for KIPP St. Louis staff for all questions and concerns related to benefits
  • Ensure compliance with Affordable Care Act (ACA) including end of year tax forms
  • Manage Worker’s Compensation claims from receipt of injury report to close of claim
  • Manage short and long term leave requests for all employees; serve as FMLA Administraton
Payroll Review (Partner)
  • In partnership with our Payroll Administrator, ensure timely and accurate wage payments for all employees 
  • Ensure PTO is recorded for all leaves of absence, including parental leave, extended sick leave, etc.
  • Document and update employee data to reflect the position and/or salary changes
  • Process stipend agreements and document assignment
Additional Human Resources Activities
  • Support fellow HR Manager with staff credential and certification verifications for the region
  • Support fellow HR Manager with HR compliance, information, records for the region

Requirements:
  • Cultural competence
  • SHRM Certification (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) or PHR Certification
  • Knowledge of Federal and State Labor Laws 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or other related fields
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel Proficiency
  • Ability to quickly and effectively build relationships with, motivate, and engage a diverse group of stakeholders
Preferred skills and qualifications include:
  • SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) 
  • Entrepreneurial spirit; self-motivated and comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Master’s degree in Human Resources
  • 5 or more years of direct HR work experience 
  • Experience working in non-profit or education sectors with educationally underserved students
  • Comfort with HR information systems and digital/cloud-based HR tools
