Special Education Teacher III
Hawthorn Children’s Psychiatric Hospital
 
Full-time, 12 month position
Regular Hours: 7:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday thru Friday
 
Description:
Hawthorn Children’s Psychiatric Hospital provides specialized care for children and adolescents diagnosed with mental illness. We are looking for a positive and energetic teacher for our Children’s Unit, who has an interest in helping children with mental illness maximize their potential. Our teachers provide instruction to youth in the Inpatient Program and Residential Program adhering to a Missouri DESE approved course of study, but also will be allowed to exercise creativity and flexibility in adapting coursework to fit the needs and abilities of the residential consumers. Your time with the consumers allows you to see the difference we make in the lives of the children in our care. As a teacher at Hawthorn, you will receive ongoing guidance, support, and education, providing you the opportunity to flourish in your professional role with the consumers and the facility. 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredit college or university and four or more years of post-baccalaureate special education teaching experience in a school accredited by a governing agency (such as Missouri Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education or the North Central Association on Accreditation and School Improvement)            
OR
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in Special Education; and Two or more years of post-baccalaureate special education teaching experience in a school accredited by a governing agency (such as Missouri Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education or the North Central Association on Accreditation and School Improvement)
OR
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education; and Three or more years of post-baccalaureate special education teaching experience in a school accredited by a governing agency (such as Missouri Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education or the North Central Association on Accreditation and School Improvement).
(Possession of a valid teaching certificate in special education issued from the Missouri Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education will substitute for the specialized coursework)

(Preferred) Continuous Career or Lifetime Certification

Must be qualified to write and implement Individualized Education Plans

Reports to the Education Supervisor and the Chief of Clinical Services.
 
Salary Ranges:
Special Education Teacher I:               $1,168.00 – $1,854.00
Special Education Teacher II or III:     $1,471.00 – $2,338.00
