Job Description:
Districts include:  Pattonville/Ritenour, Ferguson/Florissant, Mehlville/Kirkwood, Hazelwood, University City/Clayton/Normandy.  

  The Administrative Intern Program was designed to enable talented teachers to explore their motivation and interest in pursuing career development in administration by (1) utilizing talents and enthusiasm of outstanding teachers as they assist in the administration of the school or district programs, (2) providing training and practical experience and (3) development of a cadre of talented learning leaders.  The Administrative Intern Program provides a systemic approach to career progression and succession planning.
Job Responsibilities:
The administrative intern will work within the guidelines of the administrative intern job description, including responsibilities unique to the location or setting of the internship.
Instruction and Learning:
The scope and sequence of the program will enable talented teachers to develop in the following areas for successful performance in an Administrative role: 
  • Teaching and learning
  • Continuous professional learning
  • Management of the organizational system
  • Collaboration with families and stakeholders
  • Ethics and integrity
  • Knowledge and skills based on best practices

Orientation and Evaluation:
Prior to beginning the internship, the intern and the supervisor will develop a plan to include goal setting in the areas of instructional leadership, management, interpersonal relationship, and professional responsibilities.
The area coordinator/building principal serves as the primary mentor.  The region/district director serves as the primary supervisor, and evaluator of the administrative intern.
Education and/or Experience:
Master’s degree in Special Education and/or school administration preferred; five years or more of special education teaching experience preferred; satisfactory evaluation from immediate supervisor; demonstrated leadership in current position; knowledge of special education law and processes preferred; possess strong communication and organizational skills. Successful completion of SSD teacher leadership academy preferred, successful use of continuous improvement principles and practices in a classroom or other setting preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Missouri Special Education Teaching Certificate required; currently pursuing Administrative Special Education Director Certificate preferred.
