St. Charles Community College is located just west of St. Louis, nestled in the heart of growing St. Charles County. Established in 1986, SCC is a public, comprehensive two-year community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs in the arts, business, sciences and career-technical fields. SCC also provides workforce training and community-based personal and professional development as well as cultural, recreational and entertainment opportunities.
We are seeking a full-time Marketing Specialist who will contributes to the marketing and communications efforts of the department. Involves writing for social media, news media, print and digital advertising, promotions, and publications. Involves writing/updating content for the website, basic graphic design, managing e-newsletters and student e-messaging, project management, event planning/promotion, and direct customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Manages the College's presence on various social networking sites, especially Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Google Plus, LinkedIn, Snapchat, and Blogger. Includes repurposing content, creating new content, monitoring activity, recording, analyzing and sharing analytics, managing cross-departmental social media content managers group and recommending strategy for use of the networks.
  • Writes media news releases and makes contacts with the media.
  • Develops paid and unpaid social media advertising campaigns under the advisement of the Communications Manager.
  • Writes copy for SCC publications including the College annual report as well as other printed materials and website.
  • Develops, designs, and prints posters, flyers, ads, and brochures for various College departments.
  • Writes and manages internal newsletters The Weekly SCCoop, CougarNews, and Chuck and contribute to the writing of the President's Report to the Board.
  • Writes student/faculty testimonial stories to be used in multiple venues (web, advertising, newsletters, news releases, etc.)
  • Writes and manages an annual high school and college advertising program. Execute social media paid ad plan.
  • Photographs special events, check-passings, and other events on campus. Assists in the organization of official SCC photo shoots and SCC photo booth.
  • Provides local media with a consistent update of intercollegiate athletics and/or club sports.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field, or equivalent experience required. Basic knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Microsoft Office software required; and Filemaker Pro software a plus. Good writing skills and grammar use. An understanding and passion for social media.  Fluent in use of both Mac and PC platforms.  Detail oriented, with excellent organization, time management, and interpersonal skills. Frequent contact with general public.
