About Us
Established in 2007, St. Louis Language Immersion Schools, Inc. (“SLLIS”) is a not-for-profit language immersion charter public school located in the City of St. Louis in Missouri. SLLIS currently operates the following programs:  the Chinese Program, the French Program, the Spanish Program, and the Middle School Program. At SLLIS, students are taught in their focus language whereby 50% of the core subjects (math, language arts, science, and social studies) are in the focus language with the goal of academic literacy and a gifted and talented level of rigor for all students. Classrooms are bilingual environments.

The Social Worker position is responsible for the co-curricular social support of students and groups in the school community. A Social Worker must be a trained mental health professional who will partner with parents, students, school personnel, and community partners to help students be successful in school and the community by providing early intervention, problem-solving, identifying troubled students, and working with groups within the school community. The Social Worker will employ knowledge of human development and behavior as well as systems theory to help remove barriers to students realizing their maximum educational potential.
 
Duties of an effective Social Worker include addressing students' personal, social, and emotional needs, ensuring children are physically, emotionally, and socially prepared to learn.
 
Provide services to students in a variety of methods that build upon individual strengths and offer students the maximum opportunity to participate in their own learning experience.
 
Respond to referrals made by staff, parents, and community members regarding students with problems impeding their progress, assessing individual problems experienced by students and implementing appropriate interventions within a reasonable timeframe.
 
Provide consultation to teaching staff regarding strategies for helping students with behavior challenges, conducting individual and system-wide assessments and surveys to identify needs.
 
Assist families with accessing community resources to meet basic needs, participating in school activities.
 
Conform to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) code of ethics and standards.

Minimum Requirements: 
  • Masters degree in Social Work (preferred)
  • Administrative and supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience in an urban setting working with children
  • Case management and crisis intervention experience
