Required: Minimum of 60 college credit hours. Possess and maintain a current Substitute Teacher or Teacher certificate.  Must have high to fluent English language skills, and high to fluent language skills in the language of interpretation.  Should have the ability to explain concepts, as needed, in the areas of mathematics, science, and social studies in the language of interpretation.
Preferred: Positive and professional interpersonal and communication skills.
Confidentiality. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Spanish speaking abilities preferred.

Purpose:  ESOL paraprofessionals play a supporting role to certified ESOL teachers in helping students learn English.  Helps prepare and present lessons under the supervision of the teacher of record.  Provides native language support to facilitate comprehension of the content being taught and also serve as a communicator between students, teachers, and parents.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Attend work in a regular, reliable and punctual manner.
  • Assist teacher with clerical duties and classroom routines.
  • Administers classroom assignments for purpose of supporting instructional process.
  • Communicates with teachers and parents for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.
  • Monitors individuals and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, library, lunchroom, bus loading/unloading, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Reports observations and incidents to appropriate instructional or administrative personnel, relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.).
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Assists students, individually or in small groups with lesson assignments for purpose of reinforcing learning concepts under direction of teacher.
  • Assist students with mobility needs (may involve lifting, toileting, etc.) and in appropriate cases, with medical assistance.
  • Other assigned duties.
