Title: Parent Educator
Reports to: PAT Coordinator/Assistant Superintendent
Classification: Classified
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy
on Evaluation of Classified Staff.
JOB SUMMARY: Delivery of direct parent education services to families by a professional who is knowledgeable
in child development and ability to relate well to parents, and who is responsible for planning and organizing the
parent education program. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential
duty satisfactorily.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.
- Comply with, uphold, and implement school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy.
- Secure and maintain certificate through successful completion of Department of Elementary and Secondary
- Education approved in-service in parent education and successful completion of an approvableimplementation plan.
- Provide planning and leadership to implement a recruitment model that invites families to participate in theserves and opportunities offered by the Parents As Teachers Program.
- Establish and/or work with a PAT advisory committee whose purpose is to promote knowledge of thecommunity, communicate community resources, and give input for program planning, programimplementation, and program evaluation.
- Provide parent education for families with children ages birth to three years with a minimum of eight (8)contacts for each family consisting of personal visits and group sessions.
- Implement curriculum developed by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Provide parent education for families with children ages three and four with a minimum of two contacts(personal visit or group meeting).
- Maintain a current knowledge base in child development based on valid research.
- Conduct screenings and maintain screening records in accordance with the Early Childhood DevelopmentAct (ECDA).

Parent Educator shall demonstrate an ability in working with young children and their families and include
certification in one of the following:
- Early Childhood Education
- Early Childhood Special Education (Preferred)
- Elementary Education
- Vocational Home Economics (Consumer and Homemaking)
- Occupational Child Care Service-or-
- A two-year associate degree or two year certificate program in Early Childhood Education, Child
- Development, or Nursing and demonstrated ability to work with young children and their parents -or-
- Sixty (60) hours of college credit and two years of successful experience in a program working with young children and their parents. -or-
- Five years of successful experience in a program working with young children and their parents.
- The employee will complete a satisfactory criminal/abuse and neglect background check in accordance with state law and Board policy
