Job Description:
GENERAL SUMMARY: 
  • develops and implements lesson plans, behavior plans, and curriculum 
  • distributes lesson plans to classroom supervisors one week prior to the implementation
  • manages caseload of students in a confidential manner by completing and compiling data on students’ academic successes for IEP development and re-evaluation meetings, devising students’ present level of academic achievement function (PLAAF) and proposing academic/behavioral goals  to present at staffing meetings, communicating collection of IEP data with school districts and parents via quarterly reports, report cards and narratives
  • distributes and attends MAP or re-evaluation testing with students
  • completes MAP and MAP-A assessments
  • trains all supervised staff in the areas of lesson planning, time management, teaching techniques, and data collection
  • maintains lists of students’ IEP due dates, re-evaluation dates, quarterly reporting dates, and timeline dates to assure compliance with DESE legislation
  • contacts school districts to report academic changes related to the IEP as necessary 
  • calls parents or school districts when necessary for academic concerns
  • completes quarterly reports and oversees that all therapist report their data sending the information to districts in a timely manner
  • performs direct instruction with each student on his/her specified caseload 
  • conducts all parent teacher conferences 
  • informally assesses students at The Center for Autism Education 
  • assists staff and students during crisis situations
  • cooperatively assesses a student’s well being during and after a physical restraint
  • observes supervised employees with students on a weekly basis 
  • provides necessary counseling and corrective action when situations arise with staff, including performance, attendance or other pertinent concerns
  • completes all performance appraisals for those supervised by this position including 90 day probation evaluation and yearly performance evaluations
  • attends weekly staff meetings
  • schedules all staff for the program each day providing information to scheduling coordinator for absent staff members
  • provides all coordination necessary to oversee grade level program
  • attends leadership training provided throughout the year
  • participate in all required training including Safe Crisis Management
  • provides safety and supervision of students at all times
  • Effectively able to stoop, bend, lift up to 20 pounds, kneel, sit on the floor, walk a distance of up to one mile at a time, and run at a brisk pace in order to support a student who elopes.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by Education Director and /or Associate Director
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES REQUIRED:
The employee should demonstrate the philosophy and values of The Center for Autism Education, adhering strictly the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and Code of Ethics, while giving leadership and innovation in the education field.  A Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education and a Missouri state teacher certification in Special Education (K-12) are required to perform this job. Master’s Degree acquisition as regulated by the state of Missouri is expected to fulfill requirements for continued teacher certification. In addition, the employee will participate in required staff development as directed.
Pediatric and adolescent students, parents, and families of The Center for Autism Education will be the population served by this position.  Interpersonal skills will require oral and written communication skills to communicate with families and school districts.  Four quarterly reports, development of educational and behavioral present levels of performance and goals on students’ Individualized Education Plans, and monitoring of weekly data collection will be the responsibility of the Special Education Program Coordinator.    
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work will be performed inside The Center for Autism Education, in a temperature controlled environment.  Work may also be performed in the form of community outings with the students.  The knowledge and use of universal precautions is expected as this position may be exposed to air-borne particles or bodily fluids while working with the students.  
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:  
Special Education Program Coordinator positions report directly to the Education Director. Classroom supervisors and Behavior Assistants will report directly to this position.
