Job Description:
Summary: The mission of the SSD Parent Education and Diversity Awareness Program is to champion meaningful inclusion and family engagement through supporting and working with everyone who touches the student’s life. The role of the 10 month Parent Education and Diversity Awareness Administrator and Liaison is to provide families, staff and community county-wide insight and understanding into the family perspective, roles and responsibilities. This is achieved through professional development throughout St. Louis County, family workshops, consultation, resource development, outreach, relationship development and collaboration. Family partnerships, engagement and relationship building are to support student success.

Job Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate and present professional development and other educational opportunities for families, community members      and educators county-wide to assist them in understanding of the special education process, disability issues, resources and services, transition, adult life, services, et al. Some nights and weekends are involved.
2. Research and design resource materials that will assist families, staff and the community to gain better access to and have a better understanding of the special education process, disability issues, resources and services, transition, adult life, services, et al.
3. Coordinate the Family and Community Resource Center, a clearinghouse of information with books, videos and other resources available to families, staff and the community.
4. Provide an information and referral source for families, staff and others in the community to connect them with resources within SSD, partner districts and the community.
5. Contribute family perspective to enhance professional development countywide for general education and special education staff to encourage an understanding of family experiences and promote family participation in the educational process.
6. Coordinate resources for ability awareness in St. Louis County schools.
7. Monitor family engagement initiatives and determine entry points for support.
8. Foster communication, collaboration and serve as a liaison between families, SSD and partner district staff.
9. Contribute to the district’s strategic planning process to promote effective, collaborative relationships between families and educators.
10. Work collaboratively with community agencies to enhance services to families.
11. Work effectively with staff to use data in a timely manner to plan and revise outreach initiatives.

12. Work collaboratively with SSD and community partners to promote diversity, equity and cultural proficiency.
13. Work with SSD staff and administrators to implement effective practices, continuous improvement and strong linkages with assigned area of responsibility.
14. Advise and support district level and county-wide Parent Advisory Council.
15. Coordinate, support and implement parent volunteers program
16. Coordinate and implement Parent Leadership Institute.
17. Coordinate and implement the Point of Contact program.
18. Coordinate and support outside presenters/professional development related to CSIP strategies.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree minimum; knowledge of and experience in providing training to families of children with disabilities, research, publications, ability & diversity awareness, use of technology for communication and training, Working knowledge of Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook, Google and other programs as applicable, communicating with diverse groups, working with community agencies and good interpersonal skills. Understanding from a family perspective related to disability desired.
