Parents as Teachers Parent Educator
FLSA Status: Parents as Teachers DirectorEmployee

Employee Reports to: Parents as Teachers Director
Approved By: Board of Education
Shift Type: Part Time (maximum 29 hours per week)
Salary: paid per completed visit and/or developmental screening
Variable schedule based on home visit schedule and events; may include days, evening, and weekends
Location: provides Parents as Teachers services in the De Soto, Grandview, Hillsboro and Sunrise school districts
Overview: The Parents as Teachers Parent Educator serves as a family educator and resource to provide the information, support, and encouragement families need to help their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life. The PAT Parent Educator will increase parent knowledge of early childhood development and improve parenting practices; provide detection of developmental delays and health concerns, prevent child abuse and neglect, increase child’s school readiness and school success in collaboration with area schools and the PAT Program Coordinator.

  • Minimum of 60 college credit hours
  • Training or experience specific to early childhood education or child development.
  • National Parents as Teachers certification as a parent educator for Birth – Age 3 preferred; training in PAT curriculum will be provided as a term of employment.
  • Prefer person with parenting experience.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of child development.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge and competency in computers and computer based programs (Microsoft Office, Visit Tracker).
  • Personal, licensed and insured reliable transportation to provide home visits throughout the school districts.
  • Experience and skills to identify with families from a diverse community.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize, maintain accurate and current reporting systems and prepare, write and submit reports.
  • Ability to work in a team environment yet be self-directed, as required
