PURPOSE OF JOB
: Security Officers are assigned to assure that the educational process is not obstructed or disrupted and to protect the students, staff, and district property from such disruptions or loss. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):
  • Security Officers shall be able to perform interior and exterior foot patrol on University Academy premises.
  • Security Officers must be able to operate the fire alarm system, security system, CCTV, two-way radio, cellular phones, and desk phones.
  • Security officers must be able to write reports on incidents occurring on University Academy premises.
  • Security Officers will assist in all emergency situations and drills.
  • Security Officers will utilize a metal detector.
  • Security Officers shall monitor student lunch shifts.
  • Security Officers shall open and close the building.
  • Security Officers shall conduct equipment inspections.
  • Security officers shall assist in answering phones, escorting visitors, and provide customer service to guest as needed.
  • Removing of video tapes from school buses
  • After hour emergency response
  • Assist in training staff and students in crime prevention and emergency procedures.
  • Security Officers are assigned to assure that the educational process is not obstructed or disrupted and to protect the students, staff, and district property from such disruptions or loss.
  • Security Officers are under the administration of the Director of Security and all security officers will receive their day-to-day assignments accordingly.
  • Security Officers shall maintain a professional working relationship with all employees in order to assure the safety and security of the building.
  • Security Officers will assist Administration/Directors in preventing disruptions and maintaining order. This does not include the involvement of disciplinary action; student discipline is not a security function.
  • Security Officers shall report for their daily assignments in proper uniform and with all issued equipment to perform their duties, unless otherwise directed by the Director of Security. Security Officers will be observant of any district property being removed from the building.
  • Security Officers will conduct frequent patrols of the building including exterior and parking areas around the building.
  • Security Officers will observe the Central Office area to maintain a security presence. Officers shall greet visitors and ascertain the reason for the visit. Officers shall escort visitors to their destination. During High Alert status, all guests will be asked for identification upon entry. When possible, officers shall assist the Central Office Administrative Assistant with answering phones and writing hall passes. Officers will verify all students have a hall pass prior to visiting the nurse. Visitors or students are not allowed to enter the Central Office Hallway without prior approval from staff. 
  • Security Officers are responsible for documenting and reporting all items that are not in working condition such as locks, alarms, equipment, etc.      
  • Security Officers shall be responsible for removing or replacing video tapes in school buses ONLY at the request of the Director of Security or Chief Operations Officer.
  • Security Officers shall assist Administrators during student lunch shifts by preventing disruptions.
  • Security Officers must be familiar with the Safe Schools Act, I.D.E.A.L. mediation, conflict resolutions, emergency operations plans, alarm functions, and building floor plans.
  • Security Officers will assist in training staff and students in crime prevention and emergency procedures.
  • Security Officers shall perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma and at least two (2) years of school security experience preferred.
