St. Charles Community College is located just west of St. Louis, nestled in the heart of growing St. Charles County. Established in 1986, SCC is a public, comprehensive two-year community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs in the arts, business, sciences and career-technical fields. SCC also provides workforce training and community-based personal and professional development as well as cultural, recreational and entertainment opportunities.
We are seeking a full-time Cook who will be responsible for food service for our Child Development Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Orders and/or shops for appropriate amounts of food at established intervals and assists in developing menus; maintains food preparation records in accordance with Child Care Food Programs and USDA.
  • Stores and labels foods appropriately in refrigerator, freezer and cupboard.
  • Prepares and cooks food appropriately for feeding young children with consideration to prevent choking or other safety hazards.
  • Maintains inventory of food and supplies; order supplies as needed.
  • Washes and sterilizes dishes, pots, and pans daily after meals; cleans refrigerator, stove, bins, cupboards, and counters according to designated schedule. Sweeps and mops kitchen floor on a daily basis.
  • Works with staff and administration as a cohesive and effective team. Answers phones in a professional manner as needed.

Education and/or Experience
High school graduate required with some college or completion of food service certification preferred. Knowledge of portion control, labeling requirements, and food storage/care requirements. Good understanding of cooking nutritious meals and following recipes and guidelines. Two years cooking experience and experience working with Child Care Food Program and with USDA standards preferred. Experience cooking in large quantities for young children preferred. Demonstrated dependability. Ability to relate well to young children, staff and families. Ability to maintain accurate records.
