JOB SUMMARY:
To assist in providing a well-managed, safe and efficient transportation program throughout the district as called for by the job description, administrative direction, and Board of Education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Develops and supervises all district transportation routes.
  2. Assists the superintendent in determining transportation priorities on a week to week basis.
  3. Meets with the superintendent on a weekly basis to review project and budget status.
  4. Completes necessary forms and proposals required to keep the district transportation program in good standing.
  5. Coordinates and monitors extra transportation needs for athletics, activities, field trips, etc.
  6. Monitors district transportation boundary lines and recommends changes as needed.
  7. Recommends route, driver, and shuttle modifications to ensure the most efficient transportation scheme available.
  8. Develops and monitors a regular bus maintenance and purchase schedule.
  9. Acts as the district’s representative in negotiating bus repairs, maintenance, and service outside of the district.
  10. Secures and supervises substitute employees as needed.
  11. Actively participates in the recruitment, hiring, and retention of transportation employees.
  12. Provides safety training for all employees under his/her care.
  13. Facilitates the communication and follow-up needed to respond to student conduct violations on busses.
  14. Assists with training acclimation of new employees in transportation.
  15. Conducts self as a professional representative of the R­III School District at all times.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
1.   Baccalaureate degree in appropriate technical field.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
  1. Must have effective oral and written communication skills.
  2. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with administration, staff, and professional groups.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  1. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  2. Ability to analyze data, organize information in charts/graphs and determine trends within the data.
REASONING ABILITY:
  1. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and/or schedule form.
  2. Ability to extrapolate trends and related information from data sets.
  3. Ability to concentrate, think, read and learn is necessary to perform the essential job duties.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  1. Demonstrated written and computer skills.
  2. Demonstrated organizational ability.
  3. Demonstrated positive interpersonal relations with staff, students, and all other district employees at all times.
  4. Ability to provide training to staff.
  5. Ability to accomplish tasks in a timely manner.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential duties of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet
