Job Description:
 Summary:  Secretary Level 1 performs an extensive variety of tasks including clerical and secretarial duties that require a high level of initiative and independent judgment, assuming responsibility and making decisions about procedures and processes to be followed.  Duties frequently require the discreet and tactful handling of highly sensitive and confidential material and diplomatic interaction with diverse publics.  Responsibilities may also involve coordinating the work of other staff within a department.

*Primary Responsibilities
*Maintain and monitor student information (demographics, grades, contacts, etc) that is housed in any of SSD’s student data systems.
*Enter, maintain, and monitor student and staff information in student information system used by Special School District for special education buildings/sites and career educational high schools under the direction of the SIS Manager
*Coordinate with component districts when comparing student information between SSD’s databases and the component district’s database, update when discrepancies are found.
*Enters, maintains, monitors and audits student attendance (where applicable).
*Enters, maintain, and monitors student discipline information (where applicable).
*Interacts verbally and in writing with SSD administrators, teachers and support staff, and district administrators and staff.
*Creates reports, spreadsheets, word documents and database.
*Enters and monitors student information when entering and exiting SSD.
* Monitors special education minutes from IEP(s) and assists case managers when corrections are necessary.
*Enters and monitors Tuition Codes and billbacks for students attending Special School District sites.
*Enters and monitors VTS information per the desegregation settlement.
*Enters and maintains Medicaid information.
Audits reports for correctness before submission to state or other agencies for reimbursement.
Interpret and implement local, state and federal regulations and SSD policies and procedures as they apply to student information.
Works independently and uses good judgment in making decisions as they apply to student information and job responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience:
High school education or equivalent plus additional specialized training/experience in a related area.  Minimum of three to five years experience in general office work and secretarial responsibilities.  Familiarity with computer word processing systems, spreadsheet applications, database systems, ten-key calculator, desktop computer, printers, and general office machines (fax, copiers, postage, etc.) preferred.
