Orchard Farm School District is seeking an Assistant Principal Intern to join our team at Discovery Elementary.  An Assistant Principal Intern leads our Professional Learning Community and is responsible for its successful implementation.  We are looking to hire a candidate that has worked with students who have experienced trauma and is able to be a resource for supports. The Assistant Principal Intern will assist the Principal, ensuring that the building operates effectively and efficiently.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid Missouri Principal Certification
  • Master’s in Education Administration
  • Ability to pass extensive background check
  • Excellent people skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong PLC background
  • Self-starter with ability to handle multiple tasks and frequent interruptions
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding staff and students
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 
Leads school staff through the Professional Learning Community Model:
  1. Creates a collaborative culture and growth mindset.
  2. Guide teachers in determining essential standards.
  3. Leads professional learning teams through unwrapping the standards into clearly defined learning targets.
  4. Ensures vertical alignment of essential standards across grade levels.
  5. Guides teams to create and collaboratively score common formative assessments.
  6. Facilitates discussion around student growth and next steps of learning through the data based decision making process.
  7. Creates school-wide interventions targeted by student need.
  8. Develops staff understanding and use of standards based grading.
    • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, vendors, regulatory agencies, and/or etc.
    • Ability to work with budgets.
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Ability to follow internal procedures to ensure internal controls are properly maintained.
    • Ability to prepare master schedule and work with student information system.
  9. Help principal handle issues as they occur.
  10. Observe and evaluate teaching staff.
  11. Observe and evaluate non-certified staff.
  12. Oversee the SIP room and staff.
  13. Serve as Principal when the Principal is absent
  14. Work with the Principal to develop building plans and goals consistent with the district's plans and goals.
  15. Work with the Principal in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training and assignment of all staff.
  16. Assist the Principal in organizing grade-level, faculty meetings and other activities.
  17. Will assist in the placement of substitute teachers when a teacher is absent.
  18. Communicate with principal, staff, parents/guardians regarding any major discipline issues and consequences. 
  19. Work with students dealing with discipline issues.
  20. Resolve problems between teachers and students, parents/guardians and teachers, and students and parents.
  21. Complete behavior referrals using SIS program.  
 
An individual who holds this position is expected to attend:
  • Board meetings
  • Student activities and events
  • IEP/504 meetings                      
Supervisory Duties
  • Has supervisory responsibility over all building staff, except the principal.
 Term of Employment
  • The individual who holds this position will be expected to work the district’s teacher contract, plus an additional 10 days, to be set with the approval of the principal.
