JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE: To repair and maintain plumbing systems at District locations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Cleans waste water lines, sumps, sanitary lines and grease traps for the purpose of ensuring the waste water doesn’t back up.
  2. Constructs various types of pipe joints for high or low pressure systems (e.g. threading, brazing, soldering, welding, leading, etc.) for the purpose of completing plumbing jobs.
  3. Coordinates with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
  4. Designs new plumbing systems for the purpose of ensuring systems operate in safe condition and all local and state code are followed.
  5. Diagnoses problems and/or failures in plumbing/fire suppression systems for the purpose of identifying activities necessary to maintain equipment and systems.
  6. Informs appropriate personnel of plumbing code violations for the purpose of ensuring repairs are made to meet established requirements.
  7. Installs and repairs plumbing systems and fixtures (e.g. fire sprinkler systems, natural gas lines; how water heaters, drinking fountains, pumps, faucets, valves, garbage disposals, etc.) for the purpose of providing comfort, sanitation and safety with facilities.
  8. Installs, tests and repairs back flow prevention devices for the purpose of ensuring potable water lines are in compliance with local and state regulations.
  9. Interprets plans, blueprints and sketches for the purpose of determining what is needed to correctly complete the job.
  10. Performs water tests on wells for the purpose of ensuring the water is safe to drink.
  11. Prepares documentation (e.g. back flow prevention tests, water tests, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  12. Renovates plumbing system (e.g. water lines, heaters, etc.) for the purpose of complying with building codes and meeting accessibility/functionality requirements of students, staff and the public.
  13. Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.
  14. Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  15. Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required job site.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Have a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  2. Licensed plumber preferred.
  3. Willing to work overtime, if required.
  4. Have good attendance, work and driving record.
  5. A valid driver’s license.
  6. Have knowledge of and ability to repair the following; dishwasher, garbage disposals, thermocouples on water heaters, ovens, steam tables and all other general plumbing repair projects.
  7. Have the ability to repair and replace circulating pumps on domestic water systems, gas valves, solder copper pipes, fitting, joints and install PVC piping, fitting and joints.
  8. Have the ability to operate sewer cable machines.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:
1. The Plumber is responsible for the following duties:
  1. Complete general plumbing repairs.
  2. Repair dishwashers and garbage disposals.
  3. Install thermocouples on water heaters, ovens and steam tables.
  4. Repair and replace circulating pumps on domestic water systems and gas valves.
  5. Solder copper pipes, fitting and joints.
  6. Assemble PVC piping, fitting and joints.
  7. Operate sewer cable machines.
  8. Move heavy objects as required.
  9. Operate medium duty trucks.
  10. Remove dirt and other foreign debris from meter pits and utility tunnels using various hand tools.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  (also see Physical Demands Checklist, attached)
All General Maintenance positions are physically demanding and require the ability to lift up to 100 pounds, work off of ladders and scaffold, work in confined areas with frequent stretching, twisting and bending.  Specific job categories may be more strenuous and may require different physical abilities, but all jobs incorporate the above requirements.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS:
School or office setting.
EQUIPMENT / TOOLS/ MATERIALS USED:
Drills, saws, grinders, routers, sanders, solder, plumber tape, piping, sewer cable machines, and including all hand and power tools necessary to the position.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Assigned to 260 day work calendar; 8 hours per day vary; compensation and benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, Life) as provided by the Board of Education.
