Purpose Statement
 
The Springfield, Missouri Public School District is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of District AVID Specialist for the purpose of providing support for the implementation of AVID in one high school and one middle school.

The Springfield School District is Missouri’s largest public school district and has built a reputation of academic excellence based on the outstanding performance of our students and schools. About 25,000 students attend 36 elementary schools, an intermediate school, 9 middle schools, 5 high schools and a variety of alternative education and choice programs.

The District AVID Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the implementation of AVID components according to the AVID Certification Instrument and based on the Site Plans developed to ensure effective AVID school wide implementation.

Responsibilities also include coordinating and maintaining communication among sites and the AVID Center.
Experience
 
Job related experience within a specialized field, required
 
 
Education
Masters degree in job-related area, preferred
 
Miscellaneous Requirements
  • Background clearance, the results of which must be satisfactory to the District, required
  • At least three years experience working in secondary schools.
  • Successful experience leading teams within a school setting.
  • Working knowledge of appropriate strategies for improving student engagement and reducing barriers that put students at risk of not graduation from high school.
  • Ability to work well with students, parents, staff and the community.
  • Ability to manage and analyze/disaggregate student data
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
 
Certificates and Licenses
  • Missouri Teaching Certification, required
  • Missouri Administrator Certification, preferred
  • Ability to gain and maintain “Highly Qualified” status as defined by Missouri’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, required
