Job Description:
Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School (MICDS) is seeking a full-time security officer to provide safety and security services to faculty, staff, students and visitors.  The shift is Monday – Friday from 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m  No prior security experience required.   The security officer will patrol and monitor the school campus, effectively handle incidents and emergency situations, and complete routine paperwork.  The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, be organized and attentive to details.  A comprehensive benefit package that includes health insurance, retirement plan, paid leave, and more.  For immediate consideration, complete our online application at  MICDS is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
  • Patrols assigned area on foot, in assigned utility vehicle, or other specialized vehicle to ensure personal, building and equipment security.
  • Examines doors, windows, and gates to ensure security.  Uses school keys to open and close buildings.  Monitors closed buildings for unauthorized persons and/or suspicious activities.
  • Informs and warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles.
  • Provides escort services for visitors.  Provides other public assistance, such as lockout services, jump starts, and routine information.
  • Watches for and report irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations.  Contacts emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel, as required.
  • Remains alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and/or security code violators.  Approaches suspicious persons and/or notifies police as appropriate.  May confront and/or detain violators, as required, until police arrive.
  • Patrols and monitors parking areas, athletic fields, and other outdoor spaces to provide public security and assistance.
  • Prepares routine standardized reports.
  •  High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year of directly related experience which may include directly related certification or practicum training preferred.
  • Ability to successfully conduct security patrols without direct supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to complete routine paperwork.
  • Ability to safely operate a utility vehicle.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety codes, regulations, and procedures.
  • Skill in providing protection services to individuals on campus.
  • Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.
  • Ability to operate two-way communication devices.
  • Proficiency in a use of computer software for word-processing, spreadsheet, and email.
