Job Description:
The Ferguson Florissant School District is accepting applications for the position of STEAM High School Library Media Specialist.  

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE: To work as a member of the instructional staff, teaching library skills and the appreciation of literature; to work cooperatively with classroom teachers to enhance units of study through the utilization of library resources; to direct technical processes of the library media center; to help create STEM based learning opportunities.
  1. Bachelors of Arts or Science Degree, Teaching Certification, and Library Certification.
  2. Qualify for either a permanent secondary or permanent elementary Missouri Teacher Certification.
  3. Must have a minimum of 18 semester hours in educational library science – course areas should include cataloging, reference, adolescent literature, material selection, library administration, working databases and media resources, Psychology for the Exceptional Child, Teaching Reading in Content Area, and at least one audiovisual course.
  4. Master of Library Science, preferred.
  5. Experience with instruction on information and technology literacy skills, including the research process.
  6. Experience in evaluating and selecting print and digital resources.
  7. Expertise in basic technology, including computer operation, productivity software, and basic network knowledge.
  8. Communication skills, including the ability to proactively collaborate with students and staff.
  9. Knowledge of instructional methods, strategies, and pedagogy.
  10. Knowledge of curriculum development processes and learning theories.
  11. Understanding of student growth and development.
  12. Leadership, organizational, and budget management skills.
  13. Ability to successfully interact with students and staff from various disciplines and with differing skill levels.
  14. Familiarity with national and state standards for information and technology literacy,
  15. Knowledgeable about the use of Web 2.0 tools for instruction.  
  16. Understanding of constructivism and anti-bias/anti-racist teachings.
  1. Create a school “learning commons” by developing and administering an integrated school library media program.
  2. Instruct students and staff in effective use of the media center, information and technology literacy skills, and use of equipment.
  3. Evaluate, select and procure print and digital resources and related equipment.
  4. Develop policies and procedures to ensure efficient operation, services, and facility use for a 21st century school library media program.
  5. Implement a results-oriented information and technology literacy skills curriculum integrated with subject area curriculum through partnerships with teachers.
  6. Provide leadership and guidance for effectively integrating technologies with instruction to create 21st century instructional strategies.
  7. Develop knowledge of curriculum in all subject areas.
  8. Instruct teachers, administrators, and other staff in the use of new information technologies.
  9. Recommend and procure resources for staff for use in meeting their instructional objectives.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Develop a school library media program that addresses 21st century skills, including learning and innovation, and information, media, and technology literacy.
  2. Create and maintain a school library center that provides a teaching and learning environment that is inviting, safe, readily accessible, and conducive to student learning.
  3. Actively promote reading, information literacy skills, and information resource use through activities including book clubs, reading programs, reading initiatives, and other special events.

Instruct students and staff in information and technology literacy skills, including reading for understanding, the research process, engaging inquiry, collaboration, critical thinking, developing multiple literacies, and understanding copyright, fair  ...
