Salary Range
  • Program Director I
  • $ 92,310 - $130,790 (annual salary range for 2018-19 school year shown)

Desired Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree prefered
  • Experience with department supervision and management
  • Prior experience with and knowledge of school bus transportation rules and regulations a plus, but not mandatory
  • Ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships with department staff, district administrators, and parents
  • Ability to direct and manage operations of a large fleet of vehicles
  • Ability to develop and manage a budget
  • Ability to develop and implement a professional development plan for various transportation employees
  • Ability to coordinate transportation functions with various district stakeholders
  • Ability to implement and maintain policies and procedures
  • Ability to interpret and use data for department planning
  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills

Position Duties/Responsibilities
  • Organize and manage a complex school district transportation and logistical system
  • Oversee the assignment and development of the district bus routing and scheduling system
  • Assesses and addresses incidents, concerns, etc. (e.g. safety issues, transportation routing, legal issues, department staffing, etc.) for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situation
  • Operate the department in accordance with state law and Board of Education policies
  • Directly supervises bus drivers, router dispatchers, driver trainer, and mechanics
  • Perform personnel functions (e.g. interviewing, evaluating, supervising, counseling, disciplining, directing, training, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving department objectives
  • Prepare a variety of written materials (e.g. bid specifications, correspondence, handbooks, memos, reports, policy/procedures, budget documents, etc.)
  • Recommends policies, procedures and/or actions related to district transportation services
  • Responds to emergency situations during and after regular working hours for the purpose of resolving safety concerns
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with all regulations governing bus driver licensing and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, including background checks, Department of Transportation (DOT) required physicals and random drug testing program
  • Works with other district administrators regarding inclement weather impacting student safety
  • Develops specification standards for bus purchases
  • Manages and works with vendors with regard to the purchasing of transportation related parts and equipment
  • Develop and ensure implementation of professional development training program for transportation staff
  • Oversee bus maintenance operations and routines to ensure buses are readied for the annual Missouri State Highway Patrol state safety inspection
  • Obtain and maintain knowledge of transportation Missouri regulations, school system transportation, and vehicle maintenance procedures and equipment
  • Ensure accurate records are maintained for preparation of reports, such as inventory, mileage, time records, trip records, traffic accidents and other required reports
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationship with district parents, students, employees, vendors and the general public
  • Administer transportation budget and ensure that programs are cost-effective and that funds are effectively managed
