POSITION SUMMARY: Assists the Director of Special Services with administrative oversight of the special education process. Helps ensure students with special needs are receiving an appropriate free public education.
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education. Master Degree Required
Between 3-5 years teaching experience.
Certification: Valid Teaching Certificate in Special Education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
  • Aids in the maintenance of a systematic program for students identified under IDEA.
  • Helps initiate / coordinate in-service training activities related to all Special Education.
  • Assists the school staff in establishing good working relations with various outside agencies (DFS, Juvenile Office, Pathways, etc.) that offer special help to pupils and their parents.
  • Participates as a member of the staffing during educational evaluations of IDEA.
  • Administers cognitive, achievement, and adaptive behavior measures as needed.
  • Communicates standards of expected performance to students, teachers, and parents, communicates results of educational evaluations to parents, students and teachers.
  • Participates in special education initiatives.
  • Serve as LEA designee at IEP Team meetings by facilitating and scheduling IEP meetings and ensuring compliance with IDEA and local and state requirements.
  • Support implementation of accommodations and modifications for students with IEPs in the general education classroom and during Special Education service time
  • Demonstrates effective problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Maintains good communication and strong working relationship with other school staff members and parents.
  • Participates/leads building RTI process and meetings.
  • Provides for effective day to day operation of the special education programs.
  • Monitors student files for compliance for assigned building.
  • Assists in gathering and analyzing information on student progress in Special Education.
  • Conducts self at all times as a representative of the school and assists the Building Principal and Director of Special Services in establishing and maintaining a good relationship with the community.
  • Maintains a district-wide compliance plan.
  • Implements and disseminate details of procedural safeguards.
  • Communicates procedures to staff.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Director of Special Services.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication in a variety of formats or styles. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of mangers, clients, customers, and the general public.
    Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
    Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
