The job of Assistant Superintendent for Business Services is done for the purpose/s of managing the overall budget to ensure allocation of resources to their highest educational purposes; providing information and serving as a resource to others; achieving defined objectives by planning, evaluating, developing implementing and maintaining services in compliance with established guidelines; and serving as an integral member of the leadership team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The individual who holds this position has the responsibility to:
  1. Collaborates with a wide variety of internal and external groups (e.g. business services department, auditors, community organizations, regulatory agencies, Finance Division of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, etc.) for the purpose of implementing program components; creating long and short-term plans; and addressing organizational objectives.
  2. Compiles data from a wide variety of internal and external sources (e.g. Fund balances- DIAA; MSBA procedures; budget data, etc.) for the purpose of analyzing issues, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, and/or monitoring program components.
  3. Develops a wide variety of documents and presentation materials, independently and/or through delegation to other personnel (e.g. plans, proposals, policies, budgets, Requests for Proposals, grant opportunities, procedures, forms, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and/or programs.
  4. Performs a wide variety of budget functions (e.g. monthly budget reports; expenditure reports; PO reports; contractual agreements, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate expenditures, and achieving objectives within budget.
  5. Recommends solutions to a wide variety of complex issues (e.g. budget revisions, changes in support staff processes, etc.) for the purpose of addressing the operational and educational needs and responsibilities of the district.
  6. Supports the Superintendent, Board, and department administrators for the purpose of developing and implementing services and programs and achieving operational and educational goals.
  7. Evaluate the business office structure for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the department in support of the district.
  8. Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues affecting the district.
  9. Serve as a committee member:  TIF Advisory, CPR Review, Policy, Finance, Health Plan, and Bid Evaluation.
  10. Serve as Compliance Officer for purchasing policies.
  11. Prepare for and attend all Board of Education meetings.
  12. Serve as Board of Education Treasurer.
  13. Respond to media inquiries regarding district finances.
  14. Other duties as assigned.
