MERS Goodwill has been selected by DESE to be responsible for developing four adult high schools that will administer the curriculum that allows adults to earn a traditional HS degree, at an accelerated rate, and often times coupled with dual college credit and industry-recognized credentials. The school will be open from 9 am to 9 pm, have daycare provided on site, and is the first of its kind here in Missouri.

Job Description:
The Excel Center model of adult high schools has, at its core, the goal of transforming adults who perceive themselves as individuals who have failed at high school, to high school graduates who see themselves as lifelong learners. Life Coaches are critical to this process. They build rapport and commitment with students, identify barriers that interfere with attendance or assignment completion, tutor students, and connect students with community resources. The typical caseload is between 50 and 80 students. Life Coaches attend professional development, assist in tracking student data, help with job and college placement, and put into practice the values and vision of MERS Goodwill.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, educational counseling, or similar. A minimum of 2 years of experience in social work, counseling, educational guidance or case management is also required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Classroom, excellent communication and facilitation skills, and a strong professional example is also expected. A master’s degree and/or experience in a school are preferred.
