ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The EL/MS Counselor:
  • Provide support to the building Principal
  • Will handle minor discipline concerns and contact parents
  • Teach guidance units effectively have a prepare a scheduled by the beginning of  September
  • Coordinate and share with the teaching staff the guidance lessons
  • Will teach guidance lessons at a minimum of 2 times per week; visiting each class once per month
  • Encourage staff involvement to ensure effective implementation of the guidance curriculum and each month there will be a guidance lesson theme i.e. Bullying
  • Help students establish goals and develop and use planning skills in collaboration with parents
    • Will meet individual students and small group sessions
    • Will maintain a schedule of the individual and small group sessions
  • Enroll and remove students from the Student Information System
  • Registering and scheduling of students
  • Testing coordinator/Proctor for the building (details below)
    • Will coordinate/train/prepare staff for testing
    • Create a testing schedule
    • Will coordinate technology/WIFI connection concerns with IT department
    • Will set up all testing for building
  • Keep building principal informed on student attendance, grade reports, and discipline reports on a daily basis
  • Instrumental in preparing students for academic success and guiding all students in an effort to reach their maximum potential which could include college, trade, military, etc. Will include the MO Connections resources to create a four-year plan
  • Provides orientation for students new to the school
  • Serve as a facilitator for the student support team
  • Consults with teachers, staff, and parents regarding meeting the developmental needs of students
  • Assist students and teachers to locate career information related to student’s interest and aptitudes through the use of MO Connections and other resources
  • Provide support and guidance to school families
  • Build a professional working relationship with middle school families
Building Testing Coordinator Responsibilities
  1. BTC will put together parent letters and score sheets from spring testing to mail home to parents/guardians in mid-August.
  2. BTC will send MAP scores to districts where students have transferred and make sure to request the scores from districts that students have transferred in from if the other schools have not sent them to us by mid-September.
  3. BTC puts all test scores in a permanent record file.
  4. Share information from DESE regarding practice testing, scoring guides in ELA, and resources available to teachers on the DESE Assessment page.
  5. BTC works with administrators to determine test schedules and shares with DTC as soon as possible after the start of the school year.
  6. Review our testing platform, eDirect, at the beginning of each fall.  I also go over this with BTC's.  Then prior to testing, the BTC holds a training session with teachers/proctors.  
  7. BTC sets up eDirect site, including adding in any accommodations for IEP and regular education students as discussed with teachers, SPED teachers, and administrators of the building.
  8. BTC ensures all students have been tested or taken makeup tests.
  9. BTC notifies DTC when all testing is completed.
