Job Description:
The Grandview R-II School District has an Elementary Counselor Position opening for the 2024-2025 school year.

Summary: The school guidance and counseling program assists students in becoming responsible adults. Continuous attention is given to assisting students to develop competence in decision making, working with others, and taking responsibility for their own behavior in accordance with district policies and procedures. The Professional School Counselor will possess good interpersonal skills, flexibility, and the ability to work under pressure, stay on task, be responsible, reliable, and a self-starter, and have the ability to adjust to change.

  • Provide support to the building Principal
  • Will handle minor discipline concerns and contact parents
  • Teach guidance units effectively have a prepare a scheduled by the beginning of September
  • Coordinate and share with the teaching staff the guidance lessons
  • Will teach guidance lessons at a minimum of 2 times per week; visiting each class once per month
  • Encourage staff involvement to ensure effective implementation of the guidance curriculum and each month there will be a guidance lesson theme i.e. Bullying
  • Help students establish goals and develop and use planning skills in collaboration with parents
  • Will meet individual students and small group sessions
  • Will maintain a schedule of the individual and small group sessions
  • Enroll and remove students from student information system
  • Registering and scheduling of students
  • Testing coordinator/Proctor for the building (details below)
  • Will coordinate/train/prepare staff for testing
  • Create a testing schedule
  • Will coordinate technology/WIFI connection concerns with IT department
  • Will set up all testing for building
  • Keep building principal informed on student attendance, grade reports, and discipline reports on a daily basis
  • Instrumental in preparing students for academic success and guiding all students in an effort to reach their maximum potential which could include college, trade, military, ect.
  • Provides orientation for students new to the school
  • Serve as a facilitator for student support team
  • Consults with teachers, staff and parents regarding meeting developmental needs of students
  • Assist students and teachers to locate career information related to student’s interest and aptitudes through the use of MO Connections and other resources
  • Provide support and guidance to school families
  • Build a professional working relationship with middle school families
Missouri Teaching Certification, Degree or endorsement in counseling

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
A valid Missouri Counselors Certificate and complete transcript(s) of college credit must be on file for each teacher before the beginning of each new school year. It is the duty of each teacher to possess a valid certificate that covers the academic year (the teaching assignment(s) and all other areas listed on the certificate). The teacher must assure that all professional development requirements and other DESE requirements are met to keep certificate current.
