Job Description:
Summary: Operate a school bus to transport students between assigned pick-up locations and school or school-sponsored activities. Ability to effectively communicate in a positive and
professional manner throughout the workday.

Job Responsibilities:
1. Transport students by bus and or van-type vehicle to and from school and extra curricular activities in a safe and timely manner, obeying all traffic laws, schools
district regulations and observing all mandatory safety regulations.
2. Conduct and document pre-trip and post-trip inspections to check for cleanliness, safety equipment, proper mechanical functions and adequate fuel level.
3. Conduct trip inspections after each run to check for sleeping children, vandalism, cleanliness and lost articles.
4. Operate a two-way radio or similar device to communicate with base or other vehicles to report disruptions of service.
5. Assist disabled students as necessary into and out of the vehicle.
6. Secure student’s adaptive equipment (i.e. wheelchairs, safety vests, etc.) for safe transportation.
7. Assist students in evacuation procedures during a drill or emergency evacuation.
8. Manage student behavior and maintain discipline when students are in the vehicle.
9. Report undisciplined students to the proper authority and provide a written report of violations of the student code to the designated supervisor.
10. Enforce regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.
11. Exercise responsible leadership when on out-of district school trips.
12. Complete written reports of all operational incidents including accidents, vehicle operations and student behavior.
13. Other duties as assigned.

Vocational Preparation: (Experience)
Must currently hold or qualify for a Class B Commercial Driver’s License and a Missouri State
School Bus Driver’s Permit.

Education Preparation: (Formal and Informal)
Requires the use of common sense understanding of detailed written or oral instructions; the
handling of simple one or two step instructions in standardized situations with occasional or not
variables; the use of add, subtract, multiply, and divide measurements; and reading, writing and
conversing at a level commonly associated with a minimum of eighth grade level.
