Description, Responsibilities, & Duties
The H.F. Epstein Hebrew Academy, located in Olivette, MO, is seeking a warm, nurturing, organized, creative full-time Director for its Reggio-inspired, ISACS-Accredited Early Childhood Center (ECC). The school currently has 30 children in its three classrooms, ages 2-5, but is looking to expand to serve younger children and operate for longer hours. The position reports to the Head of School and works collaboratively with other administrators. The ECC is looking to grow and innovate over the coming years.
Specific responsibilities include the following:
  • Oversee all aspects of the Epstein Hebrew Academy’s ECC, including daily operations & administration, teacher hiring, and parent relations
  • Oversee the implementation of a Reggio-inspired educational philosophy for the ECC
  • Oversee the ECC personnel files, including all items needed for licensing and accreditation
  • Supervise all full-time ECC teachers and staff
  • Work with other school administrators to tailor existing professional development to the ECC level and to create/take advantage of new and innovative PD opportunities
  • Develop and coordinate teacher orientation, training, and annual evaluations
  • Coordinate ECC parent involvement through the PTA and room parents
  • Facilitate parent communication in the form of daily updates and events/conferences throughout the year
  • Coordinate the writing and distribution of all ongoing e-mail communication with families
  • Plan and host family engagement and recruitment events
  • Work with Head of School to recruit new families to the ECC
  • Work with teachers to further develop and enhance curricula
  • Responsible for working with the Head of School on all budget items for the ECC, including annual budget submission, monthly budget updates, and ongoing oversight of the ECC budget
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Early Childhood Education, Education, or a closely related field. (master’s degree preferred) from a four-year college or university.
  • Prior experience in an administrative position working with children is required with at least 3 years of experience working in Early Childhood Education
  • Familiar with Reggio Emilia approach to Early Childhood Education is required
  • Knowledge of and adherence to Early Childhood Education licensing requirements is required.
  • Previous experience and/or current skills must include:
    • ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team;
    • demonstrated leadership qualities and ability to maintain integrity;
    • ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion;
    • ability to build a cohesive team and be flexible;
    • knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and programming;
    • ability to articulate influences of Judaic culture and the Reggio Emilia-inspired approach to classroom educators and parents; organizing classroom environment and experiences with Judaic culture and the Reggio, child-centered learning principles in mind;
    • sensitivity to cultural differences; ability to create a positive and harmonious workplace;
    • ability to understand individual leadership and learning styles and their influence on the well-being of the classroom team and climate of Epstein Hebrew Academy.
