Job Title:  Special Educator

Job Summary:  La Salle Middle School seeks a motivated special educator with a passion for providing individualized instruction to students with a variety of special needs. Prospective applicants must maintain a strong belief that they can help close the achievement gap for all students, and must be all in when it comes to La Salle’s mission to transform children and our community through innovative education.
Our students expect:
  • Manage a caseload of special education students and the implementation of their IEP/504 plans in: inclusive, self-contained and pull-out settings
  • Ensure appropriate delivery of special education instruction and related services as stipulated on IEPs/504 plans
  • Demonstrate an advanced understanding of instructional strategies for students with specific learning disabilities, behavior disorders, and developmental delay
  • Coordinate with special education team to complete quarterly IEP progress reports and provide quarterly IEP progress reports to parents/guardians
  • Demonstrate extensive background knowledge with IEP and 504 plans
  • Identify and develop appropriate curriculum and school-based assessments to support the academic growth of students with IEPs / 504 plans
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge regarding developing special education issues such as changes in federal and local special education policy
  • Advocate for special education with school leadership
  • Identify resources for parents of students with special needs
  • Develop instructional goals and systems to track progress toward goals
  • Create, utilize and revise long-term plans, unit plans and interim assessments using data to drive instruction
  • Plan and deliver lessons to students targeting a variety of learning modalities to address the needs of all students and keep students engaged
  • Regularly use multiple data points to inform daily instruction, intervention, and re-teach week curriculum
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with students and parents through frequent communication, participation in the HomeWorks! program, and regular attendance at PTO and family events
  • Create and maintain a positive classroom environment that promotes our core values of care, inclusivity, community, service, justice and zeal
  • Uphold the La Salle Middle School discipline system through fair monitoring and documenting of student behaviors
  • Participate in the coaching observation cycle with an openness to feedback
  • Participate regularly in professional development
  • Willingness to implement standards-based grading, and full participation in the data cycle
  • Participate in extended hour programming and events, including fundraisers, enrichment opportunities, and retreats
  • Other activities or duties assigned by the Principal to achieve the La Salle mission
We expect:
  • Bachelor’s degree, required
  • Three or more years of teaching experience in a traditionally underserved community, preferred
  • Demonstrated strong achievement results with documented growth
  • Full state certification in the subject area and grade level being taught
  • Documentation of content expertise; ability to attain designation as Highly Qualified Teacher promptly
