The Ferguson Florissant School District is seeking an outstanding educator for the position of Director of STEAM Academy and Gifted Education.  The STEAM/Gifted Program will provide an environment of excellence where students are engaged in project-based learning in order to develop a keen understanding of academic content and apply their knowledge. Students will be empowered to take ownership for their learning and encouraged to question and innovate. In the STEAM program, teachers will focus on six essential competencies: *Master core academic content *Think critically and solve complex problems *Work collaboratively *Communicate effectively *Learn how to learn *Develop academic mindsets. STEAM/Gifted students will develop cognitive ability, intrapersonal and interpersonal skills for lifelong success in 21st century skills and civic life.
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE: The Director of the STEAM Academy and Gifted Education is responsible for providing leadership in the areas of gifted services and the STEAM Academy. Position objectives include leadership in the delivery and evolution of district services for gifted and STEAM students; supporting project-based learning, studying, evaluating and implementing innovative techniques and methods; providing leadership in the development, articulation, and implementation of exemplary programs in the aforementioned areas; and improving the services and programing through evaluation.
  • School administration - thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of school administration
  • Policies and regulations - thorough knowledge of policies and regulations governing the school division for local, state and federal entities
  • Personnel - thorough knowledge of school personnel and administrative practices, procedures, and methods
  • Supervise and evaluate the teachers of the STEAM Academy and gifted program
  • Curriculum - thorough knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, the measurement of training effects, and effective leadership practices
  • Communication - ability to demonstrate excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Relationships - ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, administrators, teachers, staff and associates
  • Doctorate preferred
  • Master’s Degree and valid Missouri Administrative Certification
  • Experience in Gifted Education
  • Understanding of constructivist centered pedagogy
  • Commitment to ensuring that all students achieve at high levels
  • Proven instructional leadership ability
  • Management skills and ability in planning, organization, task completion and decision-making
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Must have commitment to the individual worth, dignity, potential and success of each child
  • Ability to work with, and contribute to, building a high-energy team
  • Experience with school improvement and change processes
  • Missouri Gifted Education Certification preferred
  • STEM Certification preferred
  1. Provide guidance and leadership to STEAM Academy and Gifted staff regarding policy, procedures and the direction of those programs
  2. Hold yourself  and teachers responsible for high levels of student learning
  3. Interpret state guidelines and regulations dealing with gifted education; monitor compliance with state and district policies and regulations
  4. Develop and monitor short-and-long term goals to support the Gifted/ STEAM education strategic plans
  5. Communicate with all stakeholders of the Gifted/STEAM Academy
