The Ferguson Florissant School District is accepting applications for a Chief Academic Officer. This position will report directly to the Superintendent of Schools and is responsible for supervising and evaluating Curriculum Specialists, Executive Directors, and Directors; which include Student Services, the Challenger Learning Center, Little Creek, Early Education, and Instructional Services Professional. The Chief Academic Officer will assist in developing systematic approaches to improving student achievement based on testing and observation. The Chief Academic Officer will work with outside agencies to meet all students’ needs; and assists in implementing federal and state educational mandates. This position provides the system oversight, consistency, and vision for a majority of the activities related to teaching
and learning processes, and facilitates implementation of the district’s mission and goals.
 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1.    Master’s degree in Education; Doctorate degree preferred. 
2.    Previous teaching experience and progressively responsible experience in public school administration and management including curriculum and standards, preferably in a diverse urban environment. 
3.    Missouri DESE Licensure:  Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent.
4.    Knowledge of the philosophies, principles, and practices public school administration; state and federal curriculum standards/guidelines; current literature, trends, and developments in the fields of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development.
5.    Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, professional development standards, and program implementation processes. 
6.    Thorough knowledge of curriculum design and implementation for diverse populations and models of curriculum integration/differentiation for all subjects. 
7.    Experience in developing and overseeing grants. 
8.    Ability to develop and execute long term goals and objectives; make administrative decisions in accordance with applicable laws, ordinances, regulations and school system policies and procedures; organize workflow and coordinate activities; make oral presentations before large or small audiences; research data and to compile narratives or reports from information gathered. 
9.    Ability to exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with the public and establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships as necessitated by work responsibilities.
10.  Excellent planning and organizational skills.
11.  Excellent presentation skills.
12.  Skill in leading, assisting, developing and supporting staff.
 DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:
1.  Serves as the District’s leader in curriculum and instruction.  Responsible for strategic planning and implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment JK-12 to maintain systemic consistency of curriculum and instruction.
2.  Supervises and evaluates Curriculum Specialists, Instructional Services Directors and assumes responsibility for department results.  Coaches and directs Curriculum Specialists and other department staff; regularly conduct individual and group meetings with Specialists, Principals, department heads, and others.
Develops and manages the budget for curriculum and instruction including, textbooks/instructional materials, technology, PreK-12.
3.  Develops and provides ongoing coordination of district plans for professional development in conjunction with Assistant Superintendent of Human Resource Services, Coordinator of Professional Development, the Curriculum Specialists and principals, including developing a handbook of opportunities, schedules, providing resources and documents, pre-K-12. Also works with the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resource Services, Executive Director of Professional Learning and Leadership to develop professional opportunities for leadership development in an effort to enhance development of administrators. 
4.  Coordinates with the Coordinator of Professional Development the District’s new teacher induction and mentoring programs.
