FLSA STATUS:  EXEMPT
I.  Reports To:
  • Building Principal 
II.  QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduation from college and four-year degree in Education
  • Shall meet all legal and Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education requirements for principal certification or be in progress, nearing completion.
  • Three (3) years of experience classroom teaching and/or administrative, supervisory experience 
II.   Job Goal:
  • The Dean of Students position is a training opportunity for aspiring administrators.  At the end of one year, the Dean of Students will be evaluated on his/her administrative potential and will either end contract, maintain the Dean of Students status or have the potential to be an assistant principal.
III. Responsibilities:
  • Assist the principal with Commencement and Senior Awards Banquet.
  • Evaluate, support and implement the instructional programs and curriculums.
  • Monitor daily school activities as outlined by the principal.
  • Responsible for discipline: including assigning and monitoring detention, suspension, parent conferences, and keeping accurate records of each transaction.
  • Facilitate Discipline Code Committee comprised of parents, teachers and students.  Update the BHS Disciplinary Code annually as mandated by the state.
  • Assist as directed in the evaluation of teachers, both formative and summative, and designing and implementing professional development plans for teachers identified as needing assistance as requested.
  • Facilitate and support parent/teacher conferences.
  • Attend meetings to identify and assist students and parents that need help and act as a resource in getting the students help.
  • Organize/facilitate the selection of outstanding student and staff achievements.  Prepare related press materials for media release.
  • Revise and publish the student handbook.
  • Keep the principal informed of disciplinary matters and address requisite concerns/actions.
  • Communicates all discipline related matters to parents/guardians in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate check in/check out procedures for teachers at the beginning and end of the school year.
  • Seek principal approval for critical written correspondence.
  • Report to the principal critical/important correspondence between assistant principal and stakeholders
  • Share evaluations, PD plans and needs of teachers with principal before giving written feedback to teachers/staff.
  • Inform principal of meetings outside of the building one week in advance.
  • Perform other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the principal.
